NORMAN, Okla. – No. 12 Arizona State gymnastics recorded a 195.700 to place in a tie for third with No. 10 Arkansas, in an Oklahoma-hosted quad meet Friday night at Lloyd Noble Center. Rounding out the top two, No. 1 Oklahoma posted a 198.100 while No. 15 Denver netted a 196.525.
ASU recorded event scores of 49.000, 48.900, 48.825, 48.975 on vault, bars, beam and floor, respectively. Leading the effort once again was five-time Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week Cairo Leonard-Baker and 2012 French Olympian Anne Kuhm. In a competitive field, Leonard-Baker finished fourth in the all-around with a 39.225 and was the top freshman all-arounder in the meet. Kuhm also earned a quality 39.150 in the all-around.
The Gym Devils opened the meet on floor with a respectable 48.975, spearheaded by a pair of 9.8+ performances from Kuhm and Leonard-Baker. Kuhm earned a 9.875, while Leonard anchored the rotation with a 9.825. Rounding out the lineup, junior Justine Callis posted a 9.775, while sophomore Jessica Ginn and junior Kaitlyn Szafranski added a pair of 9.750s.
The Maroon and Gold caught their stride in the night's second rotation, posting a 49.000 on vault. Counting four 9.8+ efforts, the Gym Devils were led by a 9.825 from Leonard-Baker. Kuhm, K. Szafranski, and junior Morgan Wilson each contributed a 9.800 to bolster the vault effort, while Ginn added a 9.775.
Leonard-Baker once again paced the Maroon and Gold effort on bars. Her team-best 9.825 helped to propel the squad to a team tally of 48.900. Kuhm also added a 9.800 on the event, while Callis and Wilson added a pair of 9.775s.
Anchoring the Gym Devil lineup, Callis recorded an impressive 9.850 to help the squad earn a meet-cap 48.825 on beam. Sophomore Ashley Szafranski also added a 9.825 for her unique skills and combinations. Leonard-Baker and Wilson rounded out the rotation with a 9.750 and 9.725, respectively.
Up next, the Gym Devils will travel to Northern California for a quad meet with host Sacramento State, Pac-12 foe No. 11 Oregon State, and UC Davis on Fri., Mar. 16. The meet is slated for a 7 p.m. MST start time and also marks the final meet of the regular season.
