TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State sophomore running back Eno Benjamin is one of six finalists for the 2018 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award – presented annually to the nation's top offensive player hailing from Texas – as announced by the The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Selection Committee today.
At 1,524 yards this season, he is 42 yards away from the ASU all-time single season school rushing record (1,565 yards by Woody Green in 1972). He also set the ASU school record with 277 carries this season. Benjamin is tied for third nationally with his 1,524 rushing yards and his 15 rushing touchdowns are seventh in the country. Both totals lead the Pac-12 Conference. His 147.6 all-purpose yards per game are ninth nationally.
He is the highest-graded running back in the Pac-12 and 10th-highest graded offensive player in the Pac-12, regardless of position (81.3). His 75 first downs this season are second in the FBS while his 43 runs of 10 or more yards are 5thin the country.
Benjamin has forced 83 missed tackles this season – second-most in the FBS. He has averaged a first down or touchdown on 30.5 percent of his carries this season – 8th-most among FBS running backs with at least 200 carries this year. His 29 explosive runs this season are second among FBS running backs.
Earlier this season Benjamin set the school's single-game rushing record (No. 8 on Pac-12's all-time list) with 312 yards against Oregon State – the most by an FBS running back this season. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year Division I Texas college. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Selection Committee will be comprised of Texas-based journalists and college football dignitaries and, in subsequent years, each of the all-time winners.
