LAS VEGAS – As part of the 2018 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Convention, former Sun Devil Heather Bowie Young was inducted to the WGCA Players Hall of Fame Sunday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Bowie Young, TCU/LSU's Jenny Lidback, and Kansas' Marilynn Smith became the 73rd, 74th, and 75th members of the WGCA Players Hall of Fame. She becomes the eighth Sun Devil to enter the Players Hall of Fame (list below) as Arizona State leads the nation in WGCA Players Hall of Fame honorees (one of just four teams in the nation to have five or more all-time honorees).
In two years at Arizona State, she helped lead the Sun Devils to two NCAA team championships (1994, 1995) as part of their three consecutive titles from 1993-95. She was a two-time First Team All-American and holds the record for second-most wins by a player in a single season in program history (four).
After graduating from Texas, she turned professional in 1997 and played on the Futures Tour in 1998 and 1999. She joined the LPGA tour in 2000, earning 28 top-10 finishes, and played on the U.S. team in the 2003 Solheim Cup. In 2011-12 and 2014-15, she was a member of the LPGA Player Advisory Group and now serves as an assistant women's golf coach at Clemson.
The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and works to educate, promote, and recognize its members and the student-athletes they represent.
