COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Arizona State's Grant House has been named to the 18-man Team USA roster for the 2019 Pan American Games set to represent the U.S. on Aug. 6-10, 2019 in Lima, Peru.
House joins Drew Kibler, a freshman at the University of Texas, in qualifying for the 200 freestyle event for the Games.
Known as the world's third-largest international multisport games – behind only the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games – the Pan American Games are known to showcase the nation's top talent.
This year, the Pan Am roster is highlighted by seven Olympic medalists, while six members of the 2015 Pan American roster continued on to qualify for and win medals at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Games. Of the 18 men selected to next year's roster, eight are current or former competitors in the Pac-12, another testament to the fierce competition in the pool in the conference. House is also one of eight men still competing in college.
The honor adds to an already impressive resume for the Sun Devil sophomore that includes a selection to represent the United States in pool competition at the 2019 World University Games next summer as well.
One of the higher profile signees by coach Bowman out of high school, House arrived in Tempe and quickly proved that his skill could translate to the collegiate level.
With just one full collegiate season under his belt, House already owns or shares eight top-10 records in the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay (3), 200 freestyle and the third and ninth best time in school history in the 200 IM. House capped off his freshman season last year with All-America honors in the 200 freestyle and in the 800 freestyle relay.
This year, House has racked up five podium finishes through three meets in the 200 freestyle (3) and 200 IM (2), including a second place finish out of 48 competitors at the Indiana Invitational. House has also raced to three NCAA B cuts so far in the 200 IM, 200 freestyle and 200 breast. His time in the 200 freestyle at the Indiana Invite is currently the seventh-fastest time in Division I swimming.
