TEMPE, Ariz. – Head coach Trisha Ford has announced the addition of junior pitcher Samantha Mejia to the 2019 Sun Devil softball roster.

Mejia, a two-year starter for Fresno State, made a splash in her first season of collegiate softball in 2017, where she made 18 appearances in the circle for the Bulldogs. She made a name for herself as a proficient relief pitcher, throwing a season-high five strikeouts in a four-inning relief appearance in the NCAA Seattle Regional elimination game against Michigan. In her first season with Fresno State, Mejia netted a 4.22 ERA with 24 strikeouts in her 56.1 innings of work.

The talented right-hander made significant strides during her sophomore campaign, improving her ERA and almost doubling her innings of work. Mejia did not allow a run during her first 18 conference innings pitched in relief, and carried a 3-0 record and a 0.93 ERA with just three earned runs allowed in 22.2 innings as a reliever in league games all season.

As a starter, Mejia totaled three complete games, all in Mountain West play, and finished the season with an impressive 60 strikeouts, while holding opposing batters to just a .244 batting average. The Bakersfield, Calif., native was honored as and All-Mountain West Second Team member following the 2018 season.

Mejia will join a very talented group of pitchers at ASU that includes 2018 Big West Pitcher of the year Cielo Meza (junior) and a core of talented freshman including Mikayla Santa Cruz and Abby Andersen.

The Sun Devils will take the field for the first time in 2019 when they host the Kajikawa Classic Feb. 8-10. Season tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by calling (480) 965-5812, or by visiting the ticket office websitehere.
