TEMPE, Ariz. – The three-time defending national champion Sun Devil Triathlon team signed Liberty Ricca to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).
Ricca, a Colorado Springs native, is a competitor in both triathlon and track/cross country at the high school, national, and international level.
"We are very excited to welcome Liberty Ricca to the ASU family," said two-time CTCA Coach of the Year Cliff English. "She is one of the top junior elite triathletes in the country and a very talented cross-country runner. We look forward to developing her further and to having her compete as a Sun Devil."
In triathlon, Ricca is ranked third in the Junior Elite Race Series and fourth in the Junior Elite National Rankings and was a member of Team USA in 2017 and 2018. She finished fourth at the CAMTRI North American Championships in Sarasota recently and third at the Youth Olympic Games Qualifier in Salinas, Ecuador.
Ricca won a state championship in the Colorado State Track 4A 3200 in 2018 and was named All-State in both track and field and cross country as well as Pikes Peak Athletic Conference Runner of the Year. She is a four-time Discovery Canyon High School Cross Country Team MVP.
Academically, Ricca is a strong student with a 3.87 GPA and is interested in the field of computer science and engineering.
The Sun Devils have won the USA Triathlon Collegiate Women's National Championship in their first three years as a program, most recently at the beginning of November, and looks to continue winning ways in 2019, losing only one to graduation.
