TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Athletics has set a new all-time high 88 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for its student-athletes, a mark set last year, announced by the NCAA on Wednesday.

Sun Devil Athletics has either maintained or surpassed its all-time best GSR for the 11th consecutive year and ranks sixth in the Pac-12, just two percentage points out of the top three. Seven teams posted GSR scores at 100 percent – men's basketball, women's track/cross country, gymnastics, women's swimming/diving, softball, women's tennis, and water polo.

"We are proud to announce that Sun Devil Athletics has achieved an all-time high Graduation Success Rate of 88 percent," said Jean Boyd, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director. "For the 11th consecutive year, SDA has maintained or increased its GSR. The Office of Student-Athlete Development led by Andrea Lore continues to be a catalyst for this outstanding work, in partnership with our coaches, the campus community, and student-athletes."

Sun Devil Athletics' GSR has risen 19 percent since the metric was first introduced by the NCAA in 2005 and ASU set a new goal of 90 percent after surpassing its original goal of 80 percent in 2012.

ASU ranks fourth (82 percent) in the Pac-12 in graduation rates of African American student-athletes. African-American females is 94 percent, fifth in the Pac-12, while African-American males is 78 percent, fourth in the Pac-12. Among female student-athletes GSR is 97 percent, an all-time high, while among males, it's 80 percent, elevating from 56 percent in 2005.

Baseball maintained its all-time high (94 percent) set last year, while men's basketball set an all-time high for the third consecutive season (100 percent), up from 93 percent a year ago, achieving 100 percent for the first time. Wrestling also improved 12 percent from last year to this year.

Other teams that recorded 100 percent were women's cross country/track and field, women's swim/dive, gymnastics, and water polo. Amongst this prestigious group, women's tennis and softball continued 10 and four-year streaks, respectively, in which they've recorded 100 percent GSR.

"Seven sports, including men's basketball, recorded 100 percent Graduation Success Rates. Our comprehensive goal remains 90 percent or above at all times and we will remain relentless in these efforts," said Boyd.

GSR is the NCAA's primary tool for measuring academic success in Division I athletics and, unlike the federal government's methodology, accounts for student-athlete transfers from one institution to another. It's designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree.

This is the 27th release of institutional graduation rates since national "right-to-know" legislation was passed in 1990. In 2005, the NCAA DI Committee on Academic Performance released the first set of GSR data.
