TEMPE, Ariz. – For the third consecutive year and for the second straight year in their hometown, Sun Devil triathlon came away victorious, winning the 2018 USA Triathlon Collegiate Women's National Championship.
Also similar to last year, Hannah Henry won the individual title while Charlotte Ahrens came in a close second. The Sun Devils also once again not only swept the podium but finished first through fifth in order while all seven Sun Devils finished in the top-10.
To cap her comeback season, redshirt senior Katie Gorczyca finished third followed by sophomore Kyla Roy and freshman Audrey Ernst. Kira Stanley and Rebecca Naughton finished eighth and ninth, overall, respectively.
Earlier in the day, Sarah Quintero and Catherine Giuseffi were two of three podium finishers among their age group in the second annual Ignite the Fork age group race.
In the final awards of the afternoon, ASU head coach Cliff English was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, decided by Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association member coaches in attendance. Ernst was also honored as the Division I Freshman of the Year as the first DI freshman to cross the finish line.
The Sun Devils lose only Gorczyca to graduation following the 2018 season, returning the remainder of their national championship competitive team.
