TEMPE, Ariz. -- Despite lots of penalties, goalie entertainment, and more scoring than any other game this season, the Sun Devils (5-2-0) walked away from the high-scoring affair with their third-straight win, 6-3, over Nebraska-Omaha (0-4-1) Friday night.

ASU reaches their fifth win sooner than any other year in program history, as the Sun Devils didn't reach that feat until January in 2017-18 and December in 2016-17.

"They stuck together," said head coach Greg Powers. "I thought the second period by far was the worst, but Joey kept us in it by standing on his head and he made three unbelievable saves in that period and helped our guys on the bench."

The Sun Devils got off to a fast start, scoring just three minutes into the game and exchanging goals before running away with the game behind a two-goal, three-point night from senior Anthony Croston, who made program history by playing in his 100th game.

Croston started his special night with a penalty shot less than halfway through the first period that gave ASU an early 2-1 lead.

"Just the path, the four years that I have been here it's amazing," said Croston on his journey to this point. "Tonight we played really well, everyone was going, there was a few too many penalties but we will clean that up and get going tomorrow night."

Outside of Croston's outstanding offensive performance, ASU managed to share the love as 10 Devils found their way onto the score sheet en route to the team's best offensive performance of the season.

On the other end of the ice, the penalty kill once again made headlines. While the streak of consecutive kills was snapped with Omaha's first goal -- ending it at 20 -- the following seven Maverick power plays were all killed off by the Devils, creating a new streak.

"We've got the best goalie in the country and he played like it and he got us a win," said Powers.

Although Omaha managed to sneak three goals past the Sun Devil netminder, Daccord was once again brilliant, making 43 saves on 46 shots -- his most saves since Yale late in the 2017-18 season.

"I try to bring the same mindset every night," said Daccord of his performance. "I don't try to win games or steal games, I just try to be consistent every night and give our team a chance to win whether it's a low scoring game or a high scoring game."

Both special teams units had good nights for ASU, as the power play converted on two of its seven chances to help propel the Devils in front late in the first and early in the third.

The win not only continued the Devils hot start to the campaign, but also marked the program's first win against an NCHC opponent after being held to a shootout win last time they matched up with Omaha.

Both teams will be back at it tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. MST at Oceanside Ice Arena. Limited tickets remain for tomorrow's game at thesundevils.com or by calling the Sun Devil ticket office at 480-727-0000.
