SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – On the final night of the Puerto Rico Clásico, Sun Devil volleyball split their doubleheader on Saturday night at the Coliseo Rubén Zayas Montañez. ASU opened the morning with a 3-1 win over Xavier (25-13, 13-25, 25-23, 25-21) but dropped their evening matchup with Missouri, 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 19-25).
For their efforts on the weekend, Courtney Leffel and Ivana Jeremic were named to the All-Tournament team. Jeremic finished the weekend with 32 kills while Leffel contributed 43 digs. This honors marks the second-straight for both Sun Devils, as both were named to the Sun Devil Classic All-Tournament squad as well last weekend.
ASU 3, Xavier 1
The Sun Devils opened the first set of the match on the right foot, gliding to an easy 25-13 win behind 15 kills and a staggering .583 hitting percentage. ASU jumped out to a 7-2 lead early on, and then nearly doubled it by going on a five-point run to increase the advantage to 22-10. Xavier called a time out in an attempt to regroup, but ASU shut the door with the first set victory.
Ford also continued her dominance on the weekend, notching 33 kills in sevens sets through the first two matches of the weekend. Ford appeared in her first match as a Sun Devil on Saturday night against Towson after transferring from USC last season.
Mizzou 3, ASU 1
In the second match of their doubleheader, ASU again pulled out to an early advantage, taking the first set 25-19. Nicole Peterson secured the win with a kill to get things going for the Sun Devils.
Despite dropping the next two sets, Alyse Ford and Jeremic again bolstered the Sun Devil offense, with Ford recording 12 kills and Jeremic following with 10 of her own.

Xavier took the momentum to their side in their second set, flipping the score to 25-13 in their favor. Knotted at a set score of one apiece, the Sun Devils proved their dominance over the Musketeers by taking the remaining two sets of the match. The second set proved to be yet another close one for the Sun Devils and their opponent, as the two teams tied things up at 17 and then again at 18.
