Catching up with ASU and USA's Jade Gortarez (Part 2)Catching up with ASU and USA's Jade Gortarez (Part 2)
Hi Sun Devils!

Jade Gortarez here! As some of you know I am currently in Viera, Florida competing for Team USA in the VIII Women's Baseball World Cup. It's nice and humid down here! Now, don't get me wrong, it's hot in Tempe, but the humidity is a whole other beast! After going 3-0 in our training segment last week we had our opening game on the 22nd and won 14-0 against Puerto Rico! We have four more games of pool play with match ups against the Netherlands, Korea, Venezuela, and Chinese Taipei. All of the games are streamed live on YouTube from the WBSC channel

Our team is comprised of the 20 best female baseball players in the country. We go through two tryouts before being chosen to the Cup team. The first of these tryouts is the National Open where around 100 women from ages 15 and up come to tryout. Once the tryout is complete the field of 100 is narrowed to 40 and those 40 women are chosen to compete in National Team Trials in order to make the final roster.

This team has members from 11 different states, most coming from California and Florida. Our ages range from 17-44 and this team's chemistry is different than ever before! From 1-20 every player has an important role in our quest for gold. To describe our style of play I would use the words: aggressive, confident, disciplined, and we play at a quick pace.

I hope you all will tune in, catch one of our games, and support women's baseball!

Until next time!
