TEMPE – The Arizona State University cross country program will hold open tryouts for current students on Sept. 3. All students interested in participating in the tryout session will need to read the information and complete the necessary paperwork no later than Aug. 29, 2018.
Intent to Tryout
If you have the intent to try out you must contact coach Cory Leslie (cleslie3@asu.edu) with your name (first and last name), PRs on the track, name of high school, ASU student ID number and email address. The necessary medical paperwork must be turned into Toshi Hirano on the lower level of CSAC by the given date below.
Tryout
The tryout will take place starting, Monday, September 3. Potential student-athletes are asked to be at Sun Angel Stadium, warmed up and ready to go no later than 7 a.m. It is suggested that students arrive at least 45 minutes early to allow enough time to properly warm up. Students are also asked to wear regular workout gear and running shoes (bring racing flats, no spikes). It is also suggested that you bring your own water. After Monday's try-out, those selected will be evaluated for an additional 13 day tryout period. At the end of this tryout period there will be a local race that the individuals may participate in as an open competitor.
Tryout Eligibility
Prior to tryouts, each potential student-athlete must be admitted into Arizona State University as a full-time, degree-seeking student and NCAA academic eligibility must also be met. You must have all necessary paperwork/copies completed and turned it by 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug 29.
The Paperwork
The valid paperwork necessary to participate in the tryout includes: One copy of a valid health insurance card (front and back); one copy of a completed physical; one copy from sickle cell test results. The Track and Field and Cross Country office is located on the third floor of the Carson Student-Athlete Center (south end of Sun Devil Stadium).
Physicals may be completed anywhere. The most convenient location for current students will be the Student Health Center on campus. The sickle cell test can also be completed at the SHC. It is advised that candidates have both tests completed early, as it may take a couple of days for complete test results. Students with incomplete physicals or test results will not be permitted to tryout.
Notification of Team Selections:
A list of potential student-athletes that will be invited back for an extended tryout will be posted on the Sun Devil Track and Field and Cross Country office door.
