Tempe, Ariz. – Former Arizona State golfer Jane Louise (Bastanchury) Booth passed away June 23, 2018 at age 70. Booth was surrounded by family as she passed in West Palm Beach, FL following an extended illness. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael Booth, and her daughter, also a former ASU golfer, Kellee Booth.
Jane and Kellee make up the only mother-daughter combination in the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame for both of their outstanding contributions to Arizona State Athletics. Jane competed at ASU from 1966-1969, winning the AIAW Individual National Title in 1969.
She was also an accomplished golfer outside of her ASU career, representing the United States in three victorious Women's World Amateur Teams in 1968, '70 and '72. Booth won three consecutive Broadmoor Individual Championships from '68-'70, among many other individual and team championships. Booth competed on Curtis Cup Teams in '70, '72 and '74 and then captained the team in 2000.
Booth competed as an amateur in the 1971 U.S. Women's Open and finished third overall, her highest career finish in a major. She finished in the top 10 two more times in her career at the U.S. Open in '72 and '74.
Following her playing career, she ran the Southern California Jr. Golf Association and its tournament program alongside her father, Louis Bastanchury.
Booth was inducted into the SDA Hall of Fame in 2010. In addition to the SDA HOF, she is a member of the NCAA Intercollegiate Hall of Fame and the SCPGA Jr. Golf Hall of Fame.
Her daughter, Kellee Booth, enjoyed similar success while at Arizona State. One of the most decorated golfer's in the history of the Sun Devil women's program, Booth was a member of three NCAA Championship winning teams as a Sun Devil. The four-time All-American won the Honda Award, capping an illustrious career with a place in the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame.
She resided with her husband in West Palm Beach since 1999.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 28 at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola (9999 N. Military Trail) in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and the burial will take place in Dunkirk, MD.
