The @SunDevilMGolf team had to start in bad weather at 7 a.m. Friday, then had to stop, then get started again in the first round of the #NCAAGolf Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Course (par-72/7,460 yards) in Stillwater, Okla.
On the first hole (No. 10) with weather an issue, the five Sun Devils went a combined 10-over on the par-4, 477-yard No. 10 and then play was delayed shortly after. The squad settled down behind the play of sophomore Chun An Yu.
After posting bogeys on his first two holes, An Yu birdied five of the next eight holes en route to a 3-under 69 as he sits tied for eighth after a long first round that saw 156 players on the course, with 30 teams and six individuals.
Sophomore Alex del Rey double-bogeyed the first hold, then settled down to shoot 1-under the rest of the way and post a 72. He posted an eagle on the par-5, 570-yard No. 14 and also birdied his final three holes.
Freshman Koichiro Ishika battled after posting a 5-over nine on the first hole. He ended at 8-over that included two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 542-yard first hole.
ASU is scheduled to tee Saturday beginning at 12:20 p.m. CT.
