TEMPE – Arizona State women's tennis earned two ITA regional honors as true freshman Lauryn John-Baptiste received the honor of Southwest Region Rookie of the Year, and Matt Langley earned the Assistant Coach of the Year honor.

John-Baptiste took the honor after an impressive debut season in maroon and gold that included two Pac-12 Player of the Week honors and a spot as an alternate for the NCAA Singles Championships.

The England international enjoyed a successful freshman campaign playing on court one for a majority of the season in singles and doubles play with partner Ilze Hattingh.

As a tandem, John-Baptiste and Hattingh went 15-1 in the regular season and received a bid for the NCAA Doubles Championships as the No. 12 team in the nation.

At one point, John-Baptiste/Hattingh had a 12-0 record before their first loss of the season to the No. 6 team in the nation that they eventually took down in a rematch at the the Pac-12 tournament.

Langley earns the honor in his first season under a new title of associate head coach.

Alongside coach Sheila McInerney since 2015, Langley has helped the Sun Devils have put together a 63-30 record and advance to the NCAA Team Championships in each season.

This season's results came after some early turmoil for the squad as ASU lost two upperclassmen to season ending injuries and had to complete the season with just six women. Those six went on to finish third in the Pac-12 and put up a home record at the Whiteman Tennis Center of 10-1.

As a team, the Sun Devils received the regional Community Service award.

John-Baptiste's season continues this weekend at the NCAA Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she'll team up with Hattingh again to take on the field for a national title.
