ROCHESTER, Minn. – With two dominant, shutout victories in the best-of-three-finals at World Team Trials, Arizona State's Brandon Courtney won the UWW Junior World Team Trials.
Courtney won his first match, 10-0, and his second, 11-0, over Ohio State commit Malik Heinselman at 57 kg to earn a spot.
Courtney may have a chance at a spot on the Junior World Team dependent on other scenarios. Junior World Championships will take place in Trnava, Slovakia Sept. 18-23.
In his first year competing at the Senior level, 2018 NCAA champion Zahid Valencia advanced to Sunday's best-of-three finals where he will face three-time NCAA champion and four-time All-American Alex Dieringer, an Oklahoma State alum.
Valencia and Dieringer will start Sunday at 12 pm CT/10 am PT with scoring on FloArena and live video on FloWrestling.
