TEMPE, Ariz. – The sixth-ranked Arizona State softball team have been selected as a No. 8 national seed, and will host the first round of the 2018 NCAA Softball Championship.

"I am just so proud of our team," Pac-12 Coach of the Year Trisha Ford said. "They have put in work and have accomplished something that not a lot of people thought they could. We are excited and happy to bring this back to Arizona State and Farrington. I just want to thank the administration for their support and helping to make this program what it is."

The Sun Devils, who finished third in the Pac-12, will host New Mexico State, Long Beach and Ole Miss in the 2018 Tempe Regional to be held at Farrington Stadium, May 18-20.

Arizona State, who finished the 2018 regular season with an impressive 43-11 record, including a 16-8 mark in Pac-12 play, will host regional action for the eighth time in program history, and will have an opportunity to host Super Regionals for a eighth time if the squad is able to battle through regional competition.

The last time Arizona State hosted a regional and a super regional was in 2013. That team would go on to win the super regional round over Kentucky and compete in the Women's College World Series (WCWS), marking ASU's 13th- appearance in the WCWS.

This season marks the 30th NCAA postseason appearance for the Sun Devils, and 40th overall appearance in postseason play, including postseason appearances before the NCAA era.

"I think playing at home is huge for us," Ford added. "For us we love our stadium and for us to be able to host gives us a lot of confidence heading into the postseason.
