Six Different Sun Devils Record RBI in 12-7 Loss to PacificSix Different Sun Devils Record RBI in 12-7 Loss to Pacific
PHOENIX – The Sun Devil Baseball team had the bats going early but the offense quieted down the stretch in a 12-7 loss to Pacific on Sunday afternoon.

Four Sun Devils logged multi-hit efforts as Carter Aldrete knocked his third home run of the season and Hunter Jump recorded his 17th RBI in the last 11 games to pace the offense. Spencer Torkelson extended his reached base streak to 32 games – the longest streak for a Sun Devil this season – and scored two runs while adding an RBI.

Both offenses were firing early in the game, combining for 15 runs in the first four innings of action.

After Pacific drew first blood in the top lf the first, ASU responded with back-to-back RBI singles from Jump and Taylor Lane to go on top, 2-1.

Pacific threw up another crooked number in the second with three runs but ASU again had a response with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame. Torkelson pushed one across with a big league fly ball that fell fair after getting lost in the sun, followed by a Canning RBI triple. Aldrete homered after Canning scored on a passed ball to make it 6-4.

ASU added another run in the third but the Tigers came back with four runs in the fourth to retake an 8-7 advantage.

The Sun Devil bats would go cold at that point at Pacific brought in their normal Friday night starter off the bench and he stifled the ASU lineup. Shelby Lackey went 6.0 innings to earn the win, striking out eight and allowed just one run to keep the Tigers on top.

Chaz Montoya did his part as well to quell the Tiger offense, going 2.2 innings with three strikeouts, no runs and just two hits allowed in that span.

Trailing 9-7 in the seventh inning, ASU had its best shot of the game to even things up as it loaded the bases with just one out but a looking strikeout and a groundout ended the threat and Pacific capitalized with three more runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach.

The two teams will reconvene tomorrow evening at Phoenix Municipal Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PT.
