The fourth-seeded @SunDevilMGolf squad sits tied for fourth place with Santa Clara after round one at the NCAA Regional in Raleigh, NC.

The Devils shot 8-under on the par-71/7,273 yard course on Monday. Sophomore Chun An Yu led ASU, carding eight birdies on the day with five on the front nine, as he is tied for third with Stephen Franken from North Carolina State at 6-under 65.

Freshman Mason Andersen had another strong start in round one, shooting 2-under 69. Andersen tallied four birdies and is tied for 15th heading into the second day. 

Three Sun Devils are knotted in 34th place, all notching even-par 71 with four birdies. Ten other competitors in the field concluded day one at even-par with Alex del Rey, Koichiro Ishika and Blake Wagoner. 

ASU (276) is five strokes behind the leader Texas (271) heading into round two. The Sun Devils tee off from Lonnie Poole Golf Course at 8 a.m. ET (5 a.m. in Arizona) paired with Santa Clara and Augusta.

REGIONAL NOTE: ASU is tied with Clemson for second-most NCAA Regional titles (seven), as only Oklahoma State (12) has more.

ABOUT THE REGIONAL: The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee put Arizona State as the fourth seed in Raleigh for the May 14-16 54-hole regional, one of six 54-hole regional tournaments.  Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.  The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Oklahoma State University is the host institution for the 2018 championships.
