Los Angeles -- The sixth-ranked Sun Devil softball team (43-10, 16-7) fell to top-ranked UCLA, 5-1, in game-two of the three-game series at Easton Stadium Friday night.
"I thought tonight we had a bad inning." head coach Trisha Ford said. "We had a few things not go our way and we didn't play some good defense. I thought Macha threw really well tonight. We had a coule missed pitches that they took advantage of. That's what a god team is going to do. I thought for fie and a half innings we played really well."
Senior Breanna Macha made her 16th- start on the season, throwing six innings and allowing just three earned runs on the night. Macha gave up just one walk, and struck out four Bruin batters.
UCLA (49-4, 19-4) opened the scoring with a one-run home run in the bottom of the first, but the pitchers would control the next three innings with neither team able to get much going at the dish.
The Sun Devil bats would finally come to life in the fifth inning when freshman DeNae Chatman crushed a ball over the wall in center for her sixth home run of the season.
With ASU unable to secure another run, a three-run sixth for UCLA would put the game out of reach and even the series at 1-1.
"Tomorrow is a great opportunity for us to come out and play great ball," Ford said of the series finale Saturday. "Both of these games have been very close, exciting games. This has been a great matchup and we will come out tomorrow and go from there."
The Bruins and Sun Devils will square off in game three tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for noon PT. The final game of the 2018 regular-season will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network with Anne Marie Anderson and Tammy Blackburn on the call.
