SAN FRANCISCO – Sun Devil Lacrosse co-captain Kerri Clayton nabbed Second Team All-Conference honors as announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
The junior attacker was the leading goals and point scorer for the Sun Devils in their inaugural season, finishing with a season-total 59 points (44 goals and 15 assists).
Clayton put her name in the Sun Devil record books the very first weekend of the season, scoring a program record seven goals in the team's first win over Kennesaw State on Feb. 9. The junior added five goals and two assists the very next game against Stetson on Feb. 11 to cement her name at the top.
For that weekend's performance Clayton was named Inside Lacrosse's Alpha Lacrosse Player of the Week on Feb. 14 as voted on by lacrosse fans across the country.
Clayton was also a significant force in two Sun Devil come-from-behind wins. On Feb. 26 the Sun Devils trailed Columbia, 7-1, midway through the first half but were powered by Clayton's five total goals to beat the Lions ,15-12.
In the thrilling 12-11 overtime victory at Cal on March 25, Clayton scored four goals and had the game-winning assist for the Sun Devils' first conference win in program history.
The conference recognition marks the first time in program history a Sun Devil Lacrosse player has been awarded such honors.
The Sun Devils closed their inaugural season at the Pac-12 Tournament on April 26. The team capped the historic season of firsts with a program record six wins, including a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory at Cal on March 25.
