TEMPE, Ariz. - With the academic year coming to an end and classes out for the summer, many Sun Devils opt to travel the country to participate in various events. Below is a list of events the Sun Devils will participate in. This page will be updated throughout the summer training season.
Speedo Summer Senior Nationals (August 3-5) // Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

Rounding out her competition in her native Canada this summer, McCool earned another medal to her collection. The rising sophomore put up a score of 249.95 in the 3M Preliminaries to earn a spot in the finals later that evening. McCool excelled in the finals, earning a score of 283.10 to place third in the event and a bronze medal.
USA Swimming Phillips 66 Nationals (July 25-29) // Irvine, Calif.
Swimmers: Evan Carlson, Cierra Runge, Kendall Dawson, Emma Nordin, Grant House, Nick Carlson, Zach Poti, Erica Laning, Noah Henry, Nora Deleske, Jack Kucharczyk

The Phillips 66 National Championships was a great meet for the Sun Devils, as several swimmers set personal bests. Cierra Runge took second place overall in the 800FR, swimming a time of 8:29.93, a whole three seconds faster than third place. Among them was Grant House, whose time of 1.46.95 in the 200FR was good for the 24th fastest time in 2017-18, giving him first place in the B Finals of the event. Danny Comforti (200BR) and Zach Poti (200BK) were among Sun Devils who set personal bests in the event, and Erica Laning had a sub-two minute time in the 200FR to put up another solid performance for ASU.
FINA Diving Grand Prix (July 13-15) // Madrid, Spain

Event: 3M, 3M Synchro

McCool and Kaellgren both travelled to Madrid for the next stop of the FINA Diving Grand Prix, with McCool competing in the 3M Springboard event for Canada and Kaellgren in the 3M and 3M Synchro for Team Sweden. McCool put up a respectable score of 231.00 in the qualifying round to move onto the semi finals. The Canadian fell just two spots shy of competing in her second straight finals, placing fifth while the top three spots from each semi final group moved on.
Kaellgren was just one spot shy of qualifying for the semi finals of the 3M Springboard event, but paired with partner Mathilda Roxne to grab a score of 283.65, good for fourth place, in the 3M Synchro event.
FINA Diving Grand Prix (July 6-8) // Bolzano, Italy

Continuing to represent Canada over the summer, freshman Ashley McCool placed fifth in the 3M Springboard at the Italy stop of the 2018 FINA Diving Grand Prix. McCool was the lone Canadian representative in the event, and was also one of the youngest competitors in the final round.

With the summer competition season drawing to an end, nine Sun Devils trekked to Columbus to compete against some of the top swimmers in the country in the last stop of the summer of the TYR Pro Swim Series. ASU put up a whopping 13 top-10 finishes on the weekend, making them one of just six universities (Michigan, Louisville, Ohio State, Kentucky, Indiana) to put up 10+ top-10 finishes in the series.
Cierra Runge put up four of those finishes alone, placing in the top-5 in every single event she took the block for, including a second place finish in the 400M and 800M freestyle, third in the 1500M free and fifth in the 200M free. Grant House also came up big for the Sun Devils, putting up several lifetime bests en route to a third place finish in the 200M free and fourth in the 200 IM.
Swedish National Championships (May 18-20)

Event: 1M Dive
Frida Kaellgren competed again in the 1M dive for her country, racking up her second-straight gold medal in the event to become a Swedish National Champion in the event. Kaellgren notched a gold medal in the same event in 2017 and a silver in the 3M dive as well.

Cierra Runge and Emma Nordin led the way with three such finishes and Grant House followed with one.

Her and partner Margo Erlam felt the pressure as they were the only entry from Canada, as the country's other tandem didn't compete due to injury. The pair stepped up big time, earning silver ahead of the United States, Cuba and Germany. McCool also competed in the 3M dive as well, placing 14th with a score of 236.60.

Four Sun Devils took part in the Open Water Nationals held right here in Arizona at the Tempe Town Lake. The event, put on by USA Swimming, served as a qualifying event for the Pan Pacific Championships and the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships. Emma Nordin finished first among the Sun Devil participants, placing 12th overall. Erica Laning finished not far behind in 14th, and rounding out the event were Caitlyn Wilson (29th-place) and Cameron Smith (34th).
Sun Devil for Life Anna Olasz placed 11th in the 10K swim on Friday morning.
