TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State women's golf head coach Missy Farr-Kaye announces the addition of Sofia Anokhina to the roster for 2018-19. Anokhina, a native of Moscow, Russia, makes a short trip south to Tempe from Northern Arizona University.
Anokhina will be a senior in 2018-19 and has been a standout for the Lumberjacks during her three years in Flagstaff. Named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team in 2018, she finished fourth at the conference championships most recently, the highest finisher for NAU. It was the third consecutive All-Conference honor of her career.
Earlier this season, Anokhina won the Red Rocks Invitational (Mar. 24-25) for the second straight year, also earning a top-five finish at the Coeur D'Alene Collegiate (Sept. 26-27) and a top-10 finish at Battle at the Rock (Feb. 12-13).
As a sophomore, Anokhina set an NAU record for lowest scoring average in a single season and won an individual Big Sky Championship, the sixth Lumberjack all-time and first since 2010. For the feat, she was also named Big Sky Player of the Year.
The current Sun Devil team embarks on their 26th consecutive NCAA Regionals early next week (May 7-9) in Madison, Wisc., competing for one of six spots from their regional in the NCAA Championships later this month.
