Torkelson Crushes 20th Big Fly, Sun Devils Sweep UtahTorkelson Crushes 20th Big Fly, Sun Devils Sweep Utah
PHOENIX, Ariz. --  Powered by the freshman tandem of Spencer Torkelson and Hunter Jump, the Sun Devil Baseball team (17-22, 9-9 Pac-12) defeated Utah 13-8 on Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep against the Utes.

Torkelson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning for the 20th of his freshman campaign. Torkelson became just the 12th player in ASU history to hit 20 home runs in a season. Rounding out the series, Torkelson hit 5-for-9 with two home runs and drew five walks and a .750 on-base percentage for the series.

Building off his three-hit performance last night, Jump provided yet another spark to the lineup, going 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs. In his starts versus Utah this weekend, Jump went 6-for-8 with six RBIs – logging three hits in each of the games. Coming into the weekend, Jump had just three RBI's and seven hits in his young career.

Prior to Sunday's tilt, only Gage Canning had knocked four RBIs in a game this season (doing so twice) before Torkelson and Jump each hit the mark in the series finale.

Eli Lingos got the start on the mound for the Sun Devils to finish out the series. Lingos went six strong innings, striking out five. The sixth quality start of the season for Lingos gives the senior six victories, matching his career-best for a season.

Arizona State jumped out to a quick lead with some instant offense as Torkelson and Gage Canning would start off by reaching via a walk and a single. Carter Aldrete walked to load the bases for Taylor Lane, who would deliver a two-RBI single through the left side to give the Sun Devils an early 2-0 lead. Making his second consecutive start, Hunter Jump brought two more runs home following his first career triple to extend the Sun Devil lead to 4-0.

Jump came through again in the third inning, finding a hole up the middle and through into the outfield to tack on two more runs for ASU.

The Sun Devils continued to keep the ir foot on the gas pedal in the fourth courtesy of a two-run home run by Gage Canning, increasing the Sun Devil lead to 8-0. The home run was Canning's second of the series and his seventh of the season, surpassing his previous career-high of six.

Jump would follow his career day from the plate to supply a key defensive stop as well, recording the final out of the fifth on a key diving catch down the third base line, preventing a run from scoring.

Torkelson put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the frame, however, with his 20th big fly of the season – a three run shot to extend ASU's lead to 11-2.

A five-run seventh inning from the Utes added a little drama, but a relentless Arizona State offense would continue to provide insurance, scoring a run in the seventh and eighth innings.

Sam Romero entered the game in the ninth and induced a game-ending double play on the first pitch he threw, earning his second save of the season.
