PHOENIX, Ariz. – Driven by a career performance by Dellan Raish, the Arizona State baseball team defeated Utah, 7-4, on Friday night in the opener of a three-game conference series at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Raish pitched a career-high 5.0 scoreless innings after entering to relieve tonight's starter, Alec Marsh. The redshirt freshman allowed only two hits, walked none and struck out a career-high eight batters during a dominant relief outing for the left-hander.

The 1-5 hitters in the ASU lineup powered the offense tonight, collecting 11 of team's 12 hits while combing to score six runs. Carter Aldrete looked locked in at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, falling a home run shy of the cycle.

Marsh got out of a jam early in the first inning, preventing the Sun Devils from falling into an early deficit. With two runners in scoring position, Marsh punched out the next batter to keep the Utes from taking the lead. The Sun Devils went to work on offense right away and pushed out to an early lead, scoring two runs off of four hits and one error.

The middle of the order continued to get it done, as both Carter Aldrete and Taylor Lane delivered RBI singles to push the ASU lead to 4-0.

Utah would use a pair of two-run innings to knot the score at four, with Dellan Raish entering the game at a crucial point. The southpaw baffled Utes hitters all night, keeping the Sun Devils tied while the offense attempted to manufacture a run to take the lead.

Gage Workman got the offense going in the eighth inning with a leadoff single. Utah intentionally walked Spencer Torkelson after being down 3-0 in the count, including a wild pitch that advanced Workman to second base. Canning stepped up to bat and delivered a clutch RBI single to center field to score Workman. Next batter, Carter Aldrete added two more runs with a 2-RBI triple to right center.

Raish would come back out in the ninth to complete his fifth inning of work, earning his second win of the season as the Sun Devils secured a 7-4 conference victory.

The Sun Devils will play the second game of their three-game home series against Utah tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. AZT.
