TEMPE, Ariz. –
The Sun Devils epic second-half comeback fell just short as the Arizona State lacrosse team (6-8, 1-6 Pac-12) dropped a tough game to the California Golden Bears (5-8, 1-6 Pac-12), 17-13, Sunday afternoon at the Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

"I think our girls battled to the very end despite a lot of things not going our way so I am super proud of that," said head coach Courtney Martinez Connor. "We had a lot of players stepping in and working hard and taking over when we needed them to. We just need to make sure we're coming out for the full 60 minutes and not getting ourselves steps behind."

Down 10-2 at half, the Sun Devils went on a 8-3 run in the first part of the second half to bring the game within two, including back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of the half to start the comeback.

Freshman attacker Kate Dougherty led the team in scoring with a career-high five goals, four of those coming in the second half. Freshman midfielder Kylie Kroeger added her first career hat trick plus one more for a career-high four goals.

Junior co-captain Kerri Clayton and freshman attacker Julia Burns each picked up three points in the game, both with one goal and two assists. Daniela Wright added to the comeback scoring her first career goal while also recording an assist. Fellow freshman Maria Villanti added a goal and an assist.

As a team, the Sun Devils picked up 21 draw controls, led by freshman midfielder Erin Dibernardo who had a career and program high 11. The team also caused five California turnovers.

Up next, the team hits the road for the final road series of the regular season. The Sun Devils will take on the Oregon Ducks on Friday, April 6 at 4 p.m. PT and the No. 14 Colorado Buffaloes on Sunday, April 8 at 11 a.m. MT. Sunday's game will be broadcasted live on the Pac-12 Network.
