TEMPE, Ariz.-- For the second straight week, Arizona State had two players receive Pac-12 Softball Weekly honors as senior infielder Marisa Stankiewicz and sophomore pitcher G Juarez were named the Pac-12 Player and Pitcher of the Week by the league office Monday morning.
For Juarez, the Pitcher of the Week nod marks the fourth-consecutive week earning the honor, matching Washington's Danielle Lawrie who earned four-straight Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week accolades during the 2010 season.
With Monday's announcement, Juarez becomes the first ASU pitcher to earn Pac-12 weekly recognition four times in a single season, surpassing Dallas Escobedo (2013) Hillary Bach (2012) and Katie Burkhart (2007 and 2008) as the only pitchers to earn the honor three times in a single season. Katelyn Boyd is the only Sun Devil to join Juarez with four weekly honors, earning Player of the Week recognition four times during the 2012 season.
This week, Juarez spun a perfect 2-0 record in her two starts, including throwing the 30th- no-hitter in Sun Devil history during the Sun Devil's win over BYU on Friday evening. Juarez allowed just one run on one hit this past weekend, while carding 20 strikeouts.
Stankiewicz, this week's Player of the Week, led ASU at the plate, blasting three home runs and recording seven RBI en rout to an astronomical 2.000 slugging percentage. Stankiewicz ended the weekend going five for eight at the plate, to record a team-leading .625 batting average.
The Player of the Week honor for Stankiewicz is her career-first, and 88th all-time selection for the Sun Devils.
