FORT WORTH, Texas -- Arizona State beach volleyball (2-4) capped play at the 2018 Fight in the Fort defeating tournament-host No. 14 Texas Christian, 4-1, Sunday afternoon.
Rebounding from a pair of losses to No. 8 Cal Poly and No. 18 Tulane on Saturday, the Sand Devils improve to 2-4 on the campaign.
TCU netted the first point of the outing with a victory on court two as Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene defeated Arizona State's veteran duo of Natalie Braun and Frances Giedraitis, 21-12, 21-17. The Sand Devils 4s pair of Katie Cross and Cierra Flood quickly played equalizer, garnering a three-set, 18-21, 21-7, 0-15, victory over the Horned Frogs' Jensyn Bledsoe and Avery Arellano.
After the Maroon and Gold's standout freshmen tandem of Kate Baldwin and Samantha Plaster secured a straight-set (21-14, 21-14) win on court five and ultimately an Arizona State lead, the Sand Devils would fail to relent a point the remainder of the match sweeping the outing's second flight.
The Sand Devils' top pair of Kwyn Johnson and Mia Rivera dropped TCU's Cassie House and Haven Hill in dominating fashion, 21-13, 21-18, to capture the match-deciding point. Katelyn Carballo and Ellyson Lundberg followed suit earning their team-best fifth victory on the season as a pair, with a 21-17, 21-19 decision over Molly Scheel and Hannah Rogers
Up next, Arizona State will open its Pac-12 slate traveling to the Bay Area for the 2018 Stanford Invitational, March 9-10. The Sand Devils will compete in a pair of duels over the course of the two-day outing, set to take on California (March 9, 3:30 MT) and Stanford (March 10, 3:30 MT). Arizona State's outing with the host Cardinal on March 9 will be televised live via Pac-12 Networks.
