SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Stanford: The now No. 16 Cardinal are coming off two wins last weekend to move into a tie for first place in the conference. After beating the Sun Devils Friday evening, 17-7, the Cardinal battled then-No. 13 USC into overtime. The Cardinal rallied from a four-goal deficit in the final 13 minutes of the game and defeated the Trojans, 12-11, in sudden victory overtime. Senior goalkeeper Allie DaCar made seven saves in the final 18 minutes of regulation and nearly nine minutes in overtime. Three Cardinal players recorded hat tricks in that game, including freshman Galen Lew who scored the game-winner.
Cal: The Golden Bears are coming off a pair of losses to USC and the Sun Devils. In Friday's game against the then-No. 13 Trojans, the Bears defense were able to hold the then-No. 13 Trojans to just 10 goals, but ultimately lost, 5-10. Kirsten Swanson recorded a hat trick in that game while Lauren Hickman netted two goals herself. Against the Sun Devils, the Bears dropped a back-and-forth battle, losing 11-12 in sudden victory overtime. Freshman Nikki Zaccaro recorded seven points on three goals and four assists but it wasn't enough as the Sun Devils rallied from behind.
LAST TIME OUT
The Sun Devils had another tough weekend, playing their fourth and fifth games in just 10 days, dropping Friday night's match-up against a ranked Stanford team. Junior co-captain Kerri Clayton and freshmen Emily Glagolev and Graci Fulkerson all netted two goals each in the effort against Stanford, while freshman Maria Villanti recorded one of her own, the first in her career. In an overtime thriller north of the city in Berkeley, the Sun Devils picked up their first conference win in program history, taking down the California Golden Bears in sudden victory overtime, 12-11. Glagolev hit the back of the net via a pass from Clayton to seal the victory for the Sun Devils. She finished with two goals in the game, as did fellow freshman Kylie Kroeger, while four other Sun Devils had one apiece. Clayton notched four goals and three assists to tie her career high and program record seven points in a single game. Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Thomas came in for an injured Berkeley Bonneau and recorded a career high seven saves.
