MINNEAPOLIS, Minn – No. 8 Sun Devil Swimming and Diving wrapped up the 2018 NCAA Men's National Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. ASU qualified for five events, sending five individuals and a relay team to the block, and one diver.
Zach Poti leaped off the block at 10 a.m. to start the Sun Devils off in the 200 Back. The sophomore notched an All-American honorable mention in the 100 back yesterday, the first such honor of his career. Poti raced to a sixth-place finish with his 1:40.48 time, good for the fourth-fasted mark in program history. He missed a ticket to the B Finals by just four tenths-of-a-second, but his 18th place finish reserved a spot as an alternate.
Daniel Comforti and Christian Lorenz both represented ASU in the 200 Breast, with Comforti in the third heat and Lorenz in the fifth. Lorenz, in his final event of his career, finished in 27th place and Comforti in 31st.
The senior ends his time in Tempe as one of the most prolific Sun Devil swimmers in recent years, anchoring a mainstay in the breaststroke for coach Bob Bowman. Lorenz holds seven of the top-10 times in program history for the 100 Breast and six of the top times for the 200 Breast.
Rounding out the events for the Sun Devils on the weekend was the 400 Free Relay. ASU found extreme success in their relays throughout the weekend, sending three of their four squads into the finals to rack up 12 All-Americans in those events. The Sun Devils placed as high as 10th in the 800 Free Relay on the first night of action Wednesday.
Cameron Craig led off for the Devils with one of the fastest first 50s in the event. Senior Patrick Park followed, wrapping up his ASU career with an honorable mention All-American for his performance in the 200 Medley Relay last night.
In his first event of the day, Grant House followed Park and senior Andrew Porter anchored the quartet. The foursome sped to the fourth-best time in ASU history, however, the competition proved to be too heavy as it notched the Sun Devils a 18th place finish, missing the mark for a ticket to the B Finals by less than two tenths-of-a-second.
Youssef Selim wrapped the day up for the Sun Devils over on the diving board, qualifying for the platform dive. The sophomore competed in all three diving events on the weekend after qualifying for two (3M and Platform) last year. Selim notched a score of 137.70 halfway through the competition, and finished with a final of 301.40 to place 29th.
With the completion of events on Saturday night, the Sun Devils finish the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving National Championships in 20th place.

Today is the end of a 15 year journey, and it's a sad farewell. It's been the ultimate privilege to represent the best university in the country and to learn from, compete with, and befriend the greatest and best athletes, coaches, and human beings on this earth.
