TEMPE, Ariz.—Former Sun Devil offensive lineman, Stephen Berg, passed away Tuesday from a battle with colon cancer. Berg has been part of the ASU family since 2002 and developed into a three-year starter on the offensive line. He was 34.
A Tucson native and All-Southern Arizona offensive lineman completed his prep career at Canyon del Oro High School. A top high school prospect after his senior season in 2001, Berg chose ASU over Arizona and UCLA. As a Sun Devil, he played for five seasons from 2002-06. After redshirting in 2002 and playing only four games in 2003, Berg started in 29 of 34 games in his final three seasons.
After his athletic career, Berg went into medical product sales. In August of 2013, Berg was initially diagnosed with colon cancer and has been battling the disease for the past four years.
Berg is survived by his wife, Leslie Ann, and four children. A public service put on by Berg's family and friends is scheduled for March 31, 2018 at 10 a.m. and will be held at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 7575 North Paseo Del Norte, on the northwest side of Tucson. A memorial fund has been created to assist Berg's family. Donations can be made at the family's GoFundMe page.
