TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University women's basketball players Kianna Ibis and Robbi Ryan were recognized by the Pac-12 on Tuesday as the conference announced its annual awards for the 2017-18 season as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Ibis was named to the conference's 15-member All-Pac-12 Team while Ryan earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention and All-Defensive honorable mention recognition.
A starter in every game this season, Ibis concluded the regular season as the team's leader in scoring (12.6 ppg/t-18th in Pac-12), was second in 3-point FG pct. (40.5), rebounds (4.8 rpg) and blocks (11), third in field goal pct. (49.5/sixth in Pac-12), free throw pct. (76.0), O-rebs (1.7 rpg) and steals (1.0 spg) and fifth in assists (1.1 apg). The team's active career leader in points (639), rebounds (322) and blocks (33), Ibis scored in double figures 19 times this season, including a career-high 30 points in ASU's win at Utah (Dec. 31), the most points scored by a Sun Devil since 2004. She would follow that by scoring 16 of her game-high 26 points in the 2nd half and also grabbed 6 rebounds in ASU's win over Cal (Jan. 5). Ibis has also been a big contributor to ASU's rebounding efforts this season as she has grabbed five or more rebounds 17 times, including a career-high 11 boards at UCLA (Feb. 11) to account for her first career double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds). She just missed notching a double-double in ASU's season opening win over UTSA (16 points/9 rebounds) and again (11 points 9 rebounds) at Florida State (Dec. 10). Ibis, who has scored 20 or more points five times this season, was named MVP of the ASU Classic after averaging 13.0 ppg vs. Buffalo (Dec. 2)/UC Riverside (Dec. 3).
Ryan has had a big impact on both ends of the floor as she concluded the regular season third on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg), assists (2.6 apg) and 3-point FGs (21), fourth in O-rebs (1.5 rpg) and fifth in field goal pct. (44.6), rebounds (3.8 rpg) and steals (0.9 spg). Ryan, who has had 24 starting assignments this season, has scored in double figures 17 times (10 times in last 17 games), including a career-high 24 points vs. Arizona (Feb. 16). She has seven or more rebounds five times and has recorded a season-best two steals eight times. In November, Ryan was named to Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team after averaging 9.7 ppg and making 56 pct of FGs (14-25) in ASU's games vs. current No. 2 Mississippi State, No. 21 Green Bay and Columbia. Along with Ibis, Ryan was a difference maker in ASU's win over Cal (Jan. 5) after scoring all 13 of her points in the second half (5-7 FGs/2-3 3FGs). She also came through with outstanding efforts in both of ASU's games vs. Arizona (16.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg/career-high 24 points in the first meeting) and current No. 10 Oregon State (16.0 ppg). Defensively, Ryan played a big role in helping the Sun Devils conclude the regular season first in the Pac-12 in scoring defense (57.3 ppg). ASU has limited the opposition to 12 or fewer points in a quarter 46 times this season. Most recently the Sun Devils held Pac-12 regular season champion Oregon 26 points below its scoring average.
