NEW ORLEANS – Chelsey Albertson added one final accolade to her storied Sun Devil career as she was named an academic All-American by the USTFCCCA, the organization announced Friday.
Albertson was the top-finisher for the Devils in the postseason as she finished with all-conference honors at the Pac-12 Championships and all-region honors when she finished in the top-25 at the West Regional Championships.
Albertson nearly made the NCAA Championships as an individual, but was the last woman out in the toughest division in the NCAA.
First year head coach Jeremy Rasmussen put both of his teams on the USTFCCCA's all-academic list, with the women leading the way with an average GPA of 3.17. The men's squad landed on the list with a 3.07 GPA.
Overall, there were 423 teams that brought home all-academic honors. Of those 423 teams, 228 of them were women's programs and 195 of them men's.
There were 269 student-athletes named USTFCCCA All-Academic with women accounting for 63 percent of the total (169).
In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American in the national meet.
