TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona State Sun Devils will return four veterans to its pitching staff for the 2018 season. Seniors Breanna Macha and Dale Ryndak will be the backbone of the rotation, while star sophomores Giselle Juarez and Alyssa Loza look to build on strong freshman campaigns.

As a whole, the Sun Devils posted a dominant 2.32 ERA in 2017 while allowing only 114 earned runs, the lowest mark since 2011.

The right-handed Macha has played a significant role for ASU throughout her entire career, and her numbers prove her growth heading into her senior season. The three-year starter has a career 3.55 ERA, and has tossed 419 2/3 innings over 99 appearances. Macha allowed just 39 earned runs in 2017, 73 fewer than she allowed as a freshman.

Ryndak, a right-hander, gained momentum in her first outing last year as she tossed a perfect game against the University of Texas at El Paso. That momentum continued throughout the entire season as Ryndak finished with 64 strikeouts and a 2.37 ERA, while allowing only 32 earned runs in her 94 2/3 innings pitched.

Juarez, a lefty, saw time in the circle for both ASU and the 2017 USA Softball Junior Women's National Team during her first year as a Sun Devil in 2017. She finished with a 2.79 ERA for the Sun Devils, while also striking out 81 batters in 90 1/3 innings pitched.

As a member of the USA squad last summer, Juarez played a key role in guiding the team to its second straight gold medal at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women's World Championship. Along with her perfect 5-0 record, Juarez allowed just 10 runs and 17 hits, while amassing 28 strikeouts.

The right-handed Loza is the fourth and final piece of the 2018 pitching staff. In 2017, she posted a 4-2 record with a 1.36 ERA. Loza also competed with the 2017 Mexican National Team last summer, helping the squad to a ninth-place finish at the Junior World Championships in Florida.

The Sun Devil pitching staff will look to get off to another great start in 2018, when the team takes the field for the first time on Feb. 8 against Tennessee. Tickets are still available to see your No. 19 Sun Devils in action this spring.
