SAN FRANCISCO – After then-No. 10 Sun Devil men's swimming/diving team upset then-No. 2 and three-time defending national champion Texas last weekend, sophomore Cameron Craig has been named Pac-12 Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week of Jan. 22-28, 2018.
Craig won three events on Jan. 26 and took second in a fourth (200 free), winning the 100 free for the team's fastest time of the season in the event. Craig is also the current school record holder in both individual events.
To start the meet, Craig swam the anchor leg 19.56) of the Sun Devils' winning "A" team in the 200 medley relay. Going into the final event, the ASU men led by just 15 points before Craig swam the leadoff leg (19.65) of the final win in the 200 free relay to secure the victory.
For his efforts, CollegeSwimming.com also named Craig the Pac-12 Men's Swimmer of the Week.
On Wednesday, in the latest CSCAA poll, the Sun Devils moved up to No. 7 in the nation after their upset vs. Texas.
The Pac-12's swimming and diving award was recently changed from a monthly to a weekly format to further recognize the significant accomplishments of the Conference of Champions' elite swimmers and divers.
This is Sun Devil swimming/diving's second consecutive honor after freshman diver Ashley McCool received the women's diving award last week. Senior Christian Lorenz earned the men's monthly award earlier this year in November 2017.
