LOS ANGELES – A four-run fourth inning from the USC Trojans proved to be too much for the Sun Devil Baseball team as ASU fell, 7-4, in Sunday's rubber match of the series in Los Angeles.

Freshman Lyle Lin posted his team-leading 11th multi-hit game of the season – five more than any other Sun Devil on the team – as he went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Fellow frosh Hunter Bishop was 2-of-3 with two walks from the leadoff spot for the Devils.

Like yesterday, the Sun Devils got on the scoreboard first and did so early as Bishop led the game off with a stand up double. Andrew Shaps moved him up on a groundout before Lin pushed Bishop across on an infield grounder for an early 1-0 lead for ASU.

USC took advantage of some inconsistent pitching from starter Spencer Van Scoyoc, leading off with two singles before scoring two batters later on a wild pitch to even things up in the bottom half of the first.

The Trojans moved ahead in the bottom of the third, manufacturing a run after a series that featured a leadoff walk, groundout, stolen third base and a passed ball to go ahead 2-1.

The Devils, like they had done all weekend, bounced back with a two-out rally in the top of the fourth with Sam Ferri reaching on a two-out walk and scoring from first on Gage Canning's double to right center to bring things back to 2-2.

The wheels came off in the bottom half of the frame, however, as USC scored four runs with two outs to blow the game open and stake a 6-2 advantage.

The Devil were able to get one back in the fifth behind a Lin RBI single and brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, trailing 7-4, but were unable to close the gap any closer.

Reagan Todd, who came in in relief of Van Scoyoc, took the loss for the Devils.

NOTES: Andrew Shaps has reached base in 16 of his 17 appearances on the season while Lyle Lin has now reached base in 21 of his 22 games this year…Lin has 11 multi-hit games…Through 22 games last season, the team lead was nine and no freshman had more than two games with multiple hits at that point…Since at least 2000, no Sun Devil freshman has had 11 multi-hit games in their first 22 games…The 11 games with multiple hits 22 games into the season are the most since Zack MacPhee and Zach Wilson each had 13 in 2010 and tied for eighth since the 2000 season…The Sun Devils used the exact same starting lineup as Saturday, the first time this season that has happened in consecutive games…

UP NEXT: The Sun Devils will honor a legend on Tuesday, March 28 as the team welcomes All-American alumni and the MLB all-time career record holder for home runs Barry Bonds back to throw out the first pitch for the team's contest against UNLV. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. PT start time and will be streamed live online at www.pac-12.com/live.  The Sun Devils will debut the adidas Baseball Heritage Collection uniforms for this game. Designed in collaboration with ASU Athletics, adidas designers dove into the archives, vaults and libraries to research logos, word marks, styling and materials to create the retro look.
