Gym Devil sophomore Averie Brook, is entering her second season with the Arizona State gymnastics program. The Houston, Texas product competed as a floor specialist for the team in 2017, competing in six of the squad's 11 meets on the season. An exemplary student-athlete in and out of the gym, Brook capped the season earning 2017 NACGC Scholastic All-America honors. We check in with Averie as she readies for the upcoming season.
What are you most looking forward to this upcoming season?
I am looking forward to having a really successful season this year. I think this team has big things to prove and I'm excited to see how far we will go with all of our hard work and dedication that we are putting into practice. Our team has such good chemistry and I can't wait for season to come!!
What are your team goals you look to achieve for the upcoming season?
We have a lot of exciting goals this year, some of them are to finish in the top 4 at Pac-12s and to finish top 3 at Regionals. We are also shooting for a top 20 finish in the end of season rankings!
What are your expectations for the team this upcoming season?
My expectations are that we will really stand out this year having made so much progress since last year. I think we will for sure be a team to watch out for. I am super excited about all of the things this team has to offer and I think that we can go as far as we want this season!
What was your favorite memory from this past summer?
My favorite memory from this summer was driving to Lake Havasu with my friends and hanging out on the lake for the weekend!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would go to Italy because there is so much to see and do and it is so beautiful. Italy has so much history and culture that I would like to explore and experience. Italian food is also my favorite so that's a plus too!
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
10 years from now I see myself advanced in my career (whatever that may be) and happy with a family!
What sparked your love for gymnastics?
-I love that gymnastics always gives me a challenge. There is always something new to learn and we are constantly chasing perfection. I also love the feeling of working my hardest every day in the pursuit of accomplishing my goals.
Other than Gymnastics, what are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my faith, family, photography, and nutrition. I like to try to find a balance with everything that I do and to enjoy every moment!
Outside of school and practice, what do you like to do in your free time?
I like to hang out with my friends, lay out by the pool, and drive around listening to good music! I also like to try new restaurants and go to places I have never been before.
If were given a million dollars, what would be your first purchase?
I would plan a long trip to travel to a bunch of different places that I've never gone to. I would definitely want to go explore countries like Spain, Ireland, and New Zealand just to name a few.
