TEMPE, Ariz. - Before No. 6 Sun Devil wrestling opens the regular season next weekend, they had their first chance to compete in front of a crowd this year at the team's annual Maroon & Gold Intrasquad on Saturday.
True freshman Kordell Norfleet and Cade Belshay impressed, both picking up significant victories, while Pac-12 champion Josh Shields' win at 157 lbs. over national champion Jason Tsirtsis proved significant.
Highly anticipated matchups at 125, 157, and 184 showed the increased depth of the Sun Devils, as transfer Ryan Millhof earned a conclusive victory at 125 lbs.
After the match, an alumni tailgate took place prior to ASU's football game Saturday evening, one of many alumni opportunities with the wrestling team throughout the season.
The Sun Devils open the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 5, with the majority of the team at the Michigan State Open. Zahid Valencia and Tanner Hall will compete at the NWCA All-Star Classic in Princeton, NJ.
