MANHEIM, Pa. – As announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), 2017 All-Americans Tanner Hall and Zahid Valencia will compete at next weekend's NWCA All-Star Classic at Princeton University on Nov. 5.
Tanner Hall will face Penn State's Nick Nevills at heavyweight while Zahid Valencia will earn a rematch of the NCAA semifinal match vs. Nevills' teammate, Mark Hall at 174 lbs.
Last March's NCAA matchup is the only time in college the two have faced, with Valencia 5-1 vs. common opponents. Nevills and Hall have never faced in college.
Valencia and Tanner Hall each finished third in their respective weight classes at NCAA's last season, leading the Sun Devils to their best team finish since 2011. Valencia went on to win a silver medal for the USA at Junior Worlds this summer.
Mark Hall won a national championship as a freshman last season at 174 lbs. while Nevills earned All-America status, finishing fifth in his first appearance at NCAA's, to lead the Nittany Lions to an NCAA team title.
This is the second and third time in 52 years of the event that wrestlers from Arizona State and Penn State will face in the All-Star Classic. The first time was a 9-5 victory by ASU's Ray Miller (167) over PSU's Dave Hart in 1993.
The event will take place Sunday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. ET/1 p.m. MT (starting on this date, Arizona will be on MT) at Princeton's Jadwin Gym. Tickets are $20 with group discounts available.
