TEMPE, Ariz. – As part of the day and weekend's festivities surrounding Arizona State's hosting of the 2017 USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship on Nov. 5, ASU will also host an age group draft legal race prior to the national championship.
"There is no better location to hold a triathlon competition than Tempe," said Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell, when the news of hosting the collegiate national championships was announced in April. "Tempe is a city I am proud to call home and we look forward to making all involved with the event equally as proud."
The Ignite the Fork triathlon, also taking place at Tempe Town Lake North Shore, will start at 7 a.m. on Nov. 5, with the course closing at 10 a.m. prior to the 10:30 start for the NCAA race.
"I am thrilled we are able to play a part in growing the sport of triathlon through our actions at ASU," said ASU head coach Cliff English.
Tempe plays host to major racing events including Ironman Arizona, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, and Pat's Run. The City of Tempe also hosted the 2013 and 2014 USA Triathlon National Championships, while the state of Arizona hosts over 50 triathlons annually.
