TEMPE, Ariz. -- With the 2017-18 season quickly approaching, we sat down with each of our nine new faces joining the Sun Devil Hockey program for a quick Q&A.
Freshman forward Johnny Walker probably wears the maroon and gold as a badge of honor more than the other eight new faces, as the rookie grew up in Phoenix playing hockey, never thinking he would one day play NCAA Division I hockey in his own backyard. After winning the USHL Clark Cup with the Chicago Steel earlier this year, Walker returns hoping to leave a legacy in his hometown.
Over the course of his 2016-17 season with the Steel, Walker totaled 16 goals and 13 assists in 41 games after suffering a minor injury in the middle of the season. Prior to that, Walker at one point held a seven-game goal streak to start the season while averaging a point per game through the first 12 games of the season. He netted a goal and four assists in 14 postseason appearances as well en route to the USHL Championship.
