TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State volleyball team (3-0) kept the brooms out Saturday evening in Wells Fargo Arena, taking all three sets from the Boise State Broncos (2-1), 25-22, 25-19, 25-19, in the last match of the 2017 Sun Devil Classic tournament.
"I think we came out prepared as we talked about taking care of the ball on our side of the net and making sure we control what we can control," said head coach Sanja Tomasevic. "They are a good team, obviously, and they are going to do what they are going to do. We emphasized that from the beginning in our preparation for today and with one match it made things a lot easier for us to focus. I am really proud of the girls for executing on our side of the net."
Senior Oluoma Okaro earned All-Tournament MVP honors with another double-double (14 kills and 12 digs) against the Broncos. Okaro's team-high 14 kills was on .344 attacking. Sophomore Ivana Jeremic added 10 kills.
Freshman Shelbie Dobmeier merited her first All-Tournament honors of her collegiate career and her second career double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs on the evening. Additionally, Dobmeier snuck in four kills on .667 attacking for a career-best in that category.
Senior Halle Harker recorded a team-best 25 digs, and now has 1,464 career digs to her name, accounting for the fifth most in program history. Harker's 25 digs against the Broncos account for the sixth-most digs in a three-set match in the rally scoring era (2001-present).
For the Broncos, Sierra Nobley led with 14 kills while Sabryn Roberts added 13.
Joining Okaro and Dobmeier on the All-Tournament team include Weber State's Andrea Hale, North Dakota State's Brianna Rasmusson, and Boise State's Maddi Osburn and Nobley.
Up next, the Sun Devils hit the road for the first time this season for the Gonzaga Invitational. ASU will face the University of Nevada-Reno, host Gonzaga, and Portland State for three matches Friday and Saturday.
