COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior diver David Hoffer earned a top-five finish in the 3-meter dive at the USA Diving National Championships over the weekend, placing fifth in the finals.
Hoffer finished fifth with a score of 356.35 in the 3-meter springboard out of the 14-competitor pool of finalists. He improved upon his semifinals score by nearly four points.
Concluding a successful junior season and starting his senior year at the USA Championships, Hoffer competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard at NCAA's earlier this year. He was named the Ward O'Connell Most Valuable Men's Diver for 2016-17, also receiving Second Team Pac-12 All-Academic honors. He earned three wins in the 1-meter (Oct. 29 vs. Denver, Nov. 4 at USC, Jan. 21 vs. Cal) and three in the 3-meter (Oct. 22 at BYU, Oct. 29 vs. Denver, Jan. 20 vs. Stanford) as a junior.
The 2017 USA Diving National Championships is part of the 2017 Team USA Summer Champions Series, which highlights year-round competition of Team USA Athletes on their quest to compete at the Olympic Games.
The Sun Devil swimming and diving teams start their 2017-18 season with an Intrasquad on Friday, Oct. 6 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center while the regular season will start Friday, Oct. 27 vs. Utah.
