TEMPE, Ariz. -- Head Arizona State softball coach Trisha Ford, and sophomore G Juarez, played a key role in guiding the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team to their second straight gold medal last week at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women's World Championship in Clearwater, Fla.
The American team went 9-0 in the tournament, capping the tournament with a 13-4 win over top-seeded Japan in the tournament's final game. The U.S. out-scored opponents 99-9 during the week-long competition.
Ford, who joined the JWNT staff following her first season at the helm of the storied Arizona State program, serves as an assistant coach with the Junior Women's National Team. Ford coaches alongside fellow Pac-12 coaches with the JWNT including head coach Laura Berg (Oregon State) and Natasha Watley (former UCLA player).
Rising sophomore G Juarez arrived at the US JWNT camp in early June following a breakout freshman campaign with the Sun Devils. Through the summer, Juarez has thrown 25.2 innings for the Red White and Blue, including four innings of work against top-seeded Japan in the World Championship Final. Juarez has worked her way to a perfect 5-0 record in the summer, allowing just 10 runs on 17 hits, while amassing 28 strikeouts.
