PAYSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Department of Transportation has advised fans who plan on attending Saturday's final practice of Camp Tontozona to allow for extra travel time if they plan to use State Route 260 east of Payson.
The eastbound lanes between Kohl's Ranch and Christopher Creek (mileposts 267-272), about 15 miles east of Payson, will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Sunday to allow parking along the eastbound portion of the highway. Eastbound motorists not stopping at Camp Tontozona will be directed to use a lane on the westbound side of the highway.
Those attending the practice should obey the speed limit and follow signs and message boards to the designated parking area.
Those traveling from the Phoenix metro area to attend the practice should be aware of traffic restrictions on State Route 87 near Slate Creek, 25 miles south of Payson. The highway is narrowed to one lane for a few miles in each direction while crews conduct roadway repairs and stabilize the terrain around it. Drivers can expect long delays and should consider alternate routes between Payson and the Valley.
Saturday's final practice will go from approximately 9 a.m. – noon with an autograph session following the practice. Click on this link for more information on Camp Tontozona.
