TEMPE, Ariz. – Former Arizona State Head Volleyball Coach Debbie Brown has been named as part of the 2017 class for induction into the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, as announced today by the AVCA.

Brown served six seasons with the Sun Devils (1983-88), posting a 117-83 won-loss record, guiding ASU to five appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Her 1986 squad posted a 27-7 mark, with a 13-5 record in the Pac-10, earning Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors.

After the formation of the Pac-10 for women's volleyball, Brown coached three all-Conference student-athletes, with two (Tammy Webb and Christy Nore) eventually inducted into the ASU Sports Hall of Fame.

Among Brown's highlights as ASU Head Coach was a win over then top-ranked and unbeaten Stanford in five games on October 18, 1985 in Tempe. Brown went on to serve as an assistant coach for USA Volleyball before returning to college volleyball as Head Coach at Notre Dame, where she won over 500 matches over a 20-year career.

Brown joins John Cook, Cecile Weynaud and Roseanne Wegrich in the 2017 Hall of Fame Class. The four will be honored at the 2017 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 2017 AVCA convention in Kansas City, Missouri, to be held December 13-17.

Additional information about the Hall of Fame and Honors Luncheon can be obtained at AVCA.org.
