TEMPE, Ariz. – Track and field senior CJ Albertson has been selected as a 2017 Division I Academic All-American®, announced Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Albertson becomes the first Sun Devil student-athlete to be named an Academic All-American® since 2014-15, and the first ASU track and field athlete since Nick Happe in 2012-13 to be named a first-team selection.
 
In four years, the Clovis, California-native earned his undergraduate degree in exercise & wellness with a 4.00 GPA and his graduate degree in physical education with a 3.86.
 
He was named the 2017 Pac-12 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, while also making the conference first-team All-Academic lists in all three eligible seasons. In 2016, Albertson was also named to the Academic All-District team.
 
On the track, he made the podium at the Pac-12 Championships in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a third-place finish. In 2016, he earned a second-team All-American honor thanks to placing 22nd at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
 
During the cross-country season, he placed 29th at the NCAA West Regional as well.
