NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The U.S. Track & Field Cross and Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their regional award winners on Sunday, and redshirt junior Maggie Ewen has been named the West Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

The yearly award becomes Maggie's second athlete of the year award, as she was named the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Year in May. She also earned the Female Athlete of the Meet honor at the Pac-12 Championships in Eugene.

Ewen had a record-setting junior season, as she broke the Pac-12, ASU and American collegiate record in the hammer throw at the first outdoor meet of the season before eventually breaking it again at the Duel in the Desert. She is currently one of just two throwers on the 10-athlete Bowerman Award watch list, with the final candidates being named on Tuesday, June 6 on USTFCCCA's Tracktown Live.

The redshirt junior will be competing at Tracktown USA this week, as she qualified in all three of her throwing events while at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas two weeks ago.

At the Pac-12 Championships, the St. Francis, Minesota-native captured the conference title in the hammer throw, discus and shot put, becoming just the second-ever thrower to win three conference titles in the same meet. She was also just the fourth-ever female athlete to do so within the conference.

Her winning mark of 70.20 meters in the hammer throw at the conference championships made her the first athlete to break the 70-meter mark in the history of the meet.

Ewen's 30-point performance earned her the Pac-12 Female Athlete of the Meet and just the second-ever Sun Devil to tally 30 points at a conference meet along with seven-time NCAA Champion and heptathlete Jacquelyn Johnson.

Throughout the season, Ewen was honored as the Pac-12 Female Field Athlete of the Week three of the seven weeks, while also earning the USTFCCCA Women's National Athlete of the Week one time.

Fans can watch Ewen go for her first-ever individual national championship this week on ESPN3. She enters the hammer throw as the national favorite.
