TEMPE, Ariz. – For the third consecutive year, the Arizona State University athletics department is second in the Pac-12 conference for most teams recognized by the NCAA for their high 2015-16 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
Seven ASU teams earned APR scores in the top-10 percent, six of which recorded a perfect 1000, as announced by the NCAA Wednesday. This is the highest number of Arizona State teams recognized by the NCAA as top-10 percent performers in the 12-year history of the APR program.
Men's golf, women's basketball, women's golf, gymnastics, women's tennis, and volleyball earned a perfect 1000 while men's basketball earned a score of 990. Volleyball earns its fourth consecutive top-10 recognition while men's golf earns its third.
Of special note, Sun Devil women's tennis has the distinct accomplishment of earning a perfect 1000 for all 12 years of the program, the only team in the sport among the Division I Power Five conferences to do so.
"This marks Sun Devil Athletics' best performance in the 12-year history of the NCAA's top-10 percent recognition program for the Academic Progress Rate," said Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development and Performance Jean Boyd. "The Office of Student Athlete Development, led by Andrea Lore, the academic coaching staff, our sport coaches, and our student-athletes strive for excellence in their academic performance. Once again, in a conference noted for its academic excellence, we rank second only to Stanford in this academic success metric."
For the past 12 years, NCAA APR has been used to measure academic achievement for all Division I sports teams. APR tracks academic progress each semester for each student-athlete on scholarship, accounting for eligibility, retention, and graduation, and providing a measure of each team's academic performance.
Scores required to be in the top-10 percent ranged from 984 to a perfect 1000 this year. A total of 1,203 teams from 306 schools have been recognized.
Multi-year APR's for all Division I sports will be announced by the NCAA on Wednesday, May 10. ASU has recorded its all-time highest scores the last two years.

That great APR score is because of the hard work of many people ( such as @ShaqInTheBox ) https://t.co/ymvtQ6uUkS @Pac12Network @ASU pic.twitter.com/1lRxr2PtgO
