Alejandro Del Rey Gonzalez is tied for 10th after two rounds at the NCAA Austin Regional.

A senior (Jared du Toit) and a freshman (Alejandro Del Rey Gonzalez) led fifth-seeded @ASUMensGolf (#23 by Golfweek/#26 by Golfstat) in the second round of the NCAA Austin Regional on Tuesday, as the Sun Devils are in fifth-place after two rounds at 15-over 583 (290-293).

Del Rey Gonzalez has eight birdies through two rounds and had three on the back nine Tuesday to shoot par-71 for the second straight day. He birdied holes 12, 14 and 17. He is trying for his second top-10 finish on the year, as he tied for eighth at the National Invitational in Tucson with a 6-under 210 (69-66-75). He also tied for 11th at the Western Intercollegiate with a 3-over 213 (70-66-77).

Four straight birdies to start his back nine had du Toit at 4-under, but two bogeys put him back but he closed with three straight pars.

Thirty teams and six individuals will advance from regional sites to the national championships to be played May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., hosted by Northern Illinois, as the top five teams from Austin at the end of play tomorrow advance. The Sun Devils, seeded fifth behind Oklahoma State (#4 by Golfweek), Wake Forest (#10), host Texas (#11) and Ole Miss (#20), have advanced out of regionals in 12 of the last 15 years and in 30 of the past 33.

ASU is one of only two teams (St. Peters is the other) in the 14-team Austin Regional playing three freshmen in its five-man lineup.

ASU will tee with Iowa State and College of Charleston on Wednesday
